Producing quality wines of great authenticity and 'place' is a big deal to us. Creativity in terms of branding and packaging can bring the unique story of a wine to the attention of wine drinkers.
Though our feet are firmly on the ground in the Roussillon, we do have creative 'head in the clouds' moments. Félicette is one of those such moments. A range of wines dedicated to people who travel that bit further. Those who dream. The adventurous souls.
The Félicette range of small batch wines is core to our mission to deliver stellar Grenache from the region.
Who was Félicette?
It was on October 18th 1963, Félicette the cosmic cat, jetted 130 miles above Earth on a French Véronique AG1 rocket, soaring high above the Sahara Desert. She returned just fifteen minutes later, already a decorated heroine for her nation. Puurrrfect!
The vineyard is planted on the plains and foothills in the south of France, between the Pyrénées and the Mediterranean Sea. The area benefits from two distinctive climates that allow the production of a large diversity and styles of wines: the Mediterranean climate for ripe and juicy wines and the Atlantic climate for more structured and mineral wines. 20 year old vines grow on clay - limestone soils,
The grapes are harvested, destemmed and then either hot macerated to extract colour a beautiful dark red colour, and some are cold fermented to get the best possible varietal fruit extraction. The fermentation is then conducted at controlled temperature with gentle pumping overs to extract only the better tannins. The different pressings are then blended in December and aged in stainless steel tank to preserve fruit and round tannins. No oak treatment whatsoever.
Just clean starry bright fruit.
"Bright red colour with purplish tones. A 'booster' powered nose of violets and red fruits. The Grenache launches fruit flavours of raspberry and plum. Medium-bodied on the palate, soft and juicy. A truly stellar red!"
Fergal Tynan MW
93 points - Wine Orbit (Sam Kim)
“Richly fruited and perfumed on the nose with dark plum, sweet cherry, smoky bacon, roasted nut and olive notes, it's wonderfully flavoursome in the mouth with excellent weight and plush mouthfeel. Upfront and delectably appealing." (2020 Vintage)

Clay - limestone soils, vines grown Cordon de Royat, a plant density of between 4000 and 5000 vines/ha, yield of 75 hl/ha. Vines are circa 25 years old.
The wine benefits from a period of cold skin contact and maceration. Pressing of the Grenache Blanc grapes is carried out in a pneumatic press with separation of free-run juice from pressed must. Cold static must settling then a settling on the fine lees for 3 months with stirring to highlight the richness of the wine. The wines are then racked off the lees to prevent malolactic fermentation.
“Bright yellow colour with green highlights. An intense but fresh bouquet combining mint, pear, dry apricot and white flowers. A wonderfully fresh palate of mango and a hint of spice leading into a crispy lime zest finish. Unwooded and starry bright."

90 points (silver) - The Real Review (Aaron Brasher)
"Pretty aromas of pear, stone fruit, white flowers and mandarin peel. Textured, mouth-filling and with plenty of personality. Nectarine, baked apple and citrus flavours are at the core and there's some decent grip and punchy acidity on the finish." (2023 vintage)
92 points - Wine Orbit (Sam Kim)
“It's splendidly ripe and fragrant on the nose showing apricot, rockmelon and rich floral aromas, leading to a supple palate that's delightfully ripe and lingering. Well framed by silken texture and refreshing acidity, making it fabulously drinkable." (2020 vintage)
Best Buys of the Year - Gourmet Traveller
“There are some gorgeous dry whites coming out of southern France today. Grenache blanc is often part of a blend, not commonly bottled solo. The colour is light straw-yellow and it boasts a subtly spicy aroma with traces of honey and gardenia. The taste is refined and intense but subtle, despite quite obvious phenolic grip that adds a trace of bitterness. In the final analysis, it works superbly. A very impressive, fuller-bodied dry white wine." (2019 vintage)
